Open Letter to a Lake

Dear Lake Merritt,

I'm not sure how to say this. It's really awkward and I don't want to hurt your feelings, but, well, you stink. Maybe it's me, maybe I just don't appreciate a good brackish whiff of low tide. I don't know. I'd like to spend more time around you, what with all the nice new benches and landscaping and all. But I just don't find it relaxing when I can't quite take a full breath. How about I let you think it over, and if you're not into changing, that's cool. I'll just find a spot to enjoy you that's upwind.
